Bodie Ghost Town

August 27th, 2010

Just got back from a week vacation with my son, Joey. We had a great time!
We left Tahoe in the afternoon and picked up sandwiches to picnic on Leviathan Mine Road, exit from the Barney Riley Trail off HWY 395. As we pull in, I spied a carcus of something and knew Joey would appreciate guts.

After a tasty meal, we practiced shooting and headed on to Bodie.

We arrived into Bodie at sunset after the park had closed. Of course that did not stop up from driving as close as we could get. I recited several ghost stories to set the mood. Joe was completely engrossed in the stories adding his own ghastly additions as we drove into town.
The entrance was blocked but we were able to see the town in the close distance. Very cool so we decided to come back in the morning to check it out. I tried to scare Joe but he refused to admit he was scared. So I just had to make and excuse to leave the RV and sneaked around to his side of the window. He jumped into his view while banging on the window. His eyes bugged out but thought it was very funny. At least I did. Then as we headed back to Bridgeport, I tried to convince him to spend the night in the mountains but he quickly replied with a “No way!”
We stopped off at a market in town and picked up a childrens book on on Bodie. We parked in the Bridgeport Court House and used it as our camping/bathroom spot for the night.

The next morning while Joey was sleeping in, we drove up to Twin Lakes per reccomendation of a friend. It was as beautiful as he described it. I woke up Joe and we were immeidately treated to a deer graxing on the marina grass. We had a big breakfast at the little cafe and left for our return visit to Bodie Ghost Town.

If you have never experienced a Ghost Town and have an interest in cowboys, you need to read up on and visit Bodie. It is an extrememly well preserved ghost town from the gold rush days of 1859. We didn’t get a chance to take the tour but Michelle wants to go so we will plan to take it then. It is limited to 20 so arrive early and get on the list as soon as you arrive.
Bodie is a photographer’s dream so for more photos of Bodie, go to my photography site www.johnnygproductions.smugmug.com for more photos.

After spending a couple hours exploring the numerous buildings and homes, we headed out of Dodge to meet up with our cousin Guggs for part 2 of our vacation in Pinecrest Lake, CA.

Disney World

It was so cold; the Iguanas were freezing and falling out of the trees. There were dead lizards everywhere. Records were being set for the coldest day, most consecutive cold days, Most frosty days, and every other cold record on record… Read the rest of this entry »

Some of my far more experienced off-road friends took me on the grand-daddy of off-road trails – THE RUBICON TRAIL. I am man enough to admit, I almost had to change my underwear on a few passes where I had no idea any vehicle, much less my Jeep, could ever pass.

For those who know my history of hosting parties, you can understand my desire to attend the ultimate pary place – The Playboy Mansion. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) I know nobody in “Hollywood” so the odds of checking this off my Bucket List was not good.
So when I got a call from Michelle telling me to call our friend, Ken Kribel ASAP, he has an important invitiation to extend to you, I had a feeling this was going to be good.
